You can customize your windows xp desktop according to your needs.

There are few steps of customizing your windows desktop.

Follow the steps for choosing desktop icons.

Now you can see section Desktop icons.

You can select "My Documents", "My Network Places", "Internet Explorer" and "My Computer" icons from this section. Checked icons will be displayed on Desktop of your logged on user.

2. Change default desktop icons
You can change default icons of "My Computer", "My Documents", "My Network Places", "Recycle Bin (full)" and "Recycle Bin (empty)" but you have to follow the steps below first.

• Right click on Desktop and click on Properties.
• Click on Desktop tab.
• Click on Customize Desktop button.

You can see all icons mentioned above. Select any icon and click on Change Icon button. Select your icon and click on OK button. Default icons will change.

Note: If you want to restore default icon then you can see another button Restore Default. Click on that button then default icon will appear.

3. Change background wallpaper of desktop
To change background wallpaper of windows desktop. Follow the steps below.

• Right click on Desktop and click on Properties.
• Click on Desktop tab.

Now you can see Background section. In this section you can see the list of images and pictures. Select any picture for background wallpaper. If you want to select your own picture except this list then click on Browse button and select your custom picture.

Now you can see Screen saver section. You can select any screen saver from the drop down list. When you will select any screen saver then Preview and Settings buttons will active. You can test any screen saver by clicking on Preview button and you can change settings by clicking on Settings button.

5. Change color themes
You can change your desktop themes. A theme has ready made combination of font style, font size, font color and beautiful icons etc. You can download themes from internet too. Theme file has .theme extension. Microsoft provides theme at the following url.

To change the theme of your windows follow the steps below.

• Right click on Desktop and click on Properties.
• Click on Themes tab.

Now you can see the list of themes in a drop down list. You can save current theme with new name by clicking Save As button.
