My Computer Icon

It is a special icon on the desktop. It is very important object used for interfacing: with computer. It enables user to see easily what is in his computer. You can access everything in your computer such as hardware devices and files & folders etc. It is opened by double clicking it. When “My Computer” is opened, a window is appeared, which displays the computer resources such as floppy, drive A, hard drives C, D,.. , CD-ROM drive, Control Panel, Printers etc. My Computer is very easy tool used to manage files and folders on the disk. Usually, files & folders are copied or moved from one location to another through “My Computer”.

Windows Explorer

Like My Computer icon, the Windows Explorer is also used to manage files and folders on the disk. It provides, the most efficient way to manage the computer resources. The management of files and folders by using “My Computer” is easier for beginners than by using “Windows Explorer”. The Windows, Explorer consists of window that contains menus, toolbar, an address bar etc.

The Windows Explorer window is divided into two panes by a vertical line called the split bar. The left pane of the window shows the computer resources and disk drives. The right pane shows the contents of the resource or drive (or folder) that is currently selected in the left pane.

When a resource or drive is selected in the left pane by clicking it, its contents are displayed in the right pane. It must be noted that:

* A + sign before the drive or folder in left pane shows that it contains additional items or sub-folders.

* A - sign shows that all the items are displayed.

To load the Windows Explorer, follow these steps.

  1. Click Start Button to display Start Menu.
  2. Select Programs option, a submenu appears.
  3. Select the Accessories from submenu.
  4. Select Windows Explorer from Accessories menu.
